Where to stay in Koh Samui
The most popular area to stay in Koh Samui is on the east side of the island, close to Chaweng beach. We stayed close to the Samui Poshtel and found it to be the perfect spot. If you’re not on a budget then you can check out the resorts in the area such as The Samui Beach Resort as well as Baan Talay Resort.

Best Beaches on Koh Samui
Silver Beach (also known as Crystal Bay) is definitely at the top of our list for the best beaches on Koh Samui. When you think of the perfect beach, this place is what you imagine! Silver Beach is a small cove filled with perfect white sand, insane clear blue water and large granite boulders. You can spend all day relaxing in the shallow calm blue water while being surrounded by large boulders, tall palm trees and lush greenery. Silver Beach isn’t full of loud tourists or locals trying to sell you anything. You’ll be able to relax all day without being disturbed.

Chaweng Beach is one of the most popular Koh Samui so it can be fairly busy at times. However, don’t be discouraged as this beach is split into different sections which each offer completely different vibes. If you plan on visiting Chaweng Beach, definitely head to the north end. The north side of the beach is peaceful and offers calm turquoise water. The water is also very shallow which means you can walk out to the sandbanks and relax in the middle of the crystal clear ocean.

Maenam Beach is one of the more laid back Koh Samui beaches and is a little slice of relaxation paradise. If you’re looking for somewhere to sit under the shade of a palm tree and listen to nothing but the sound of the ocean, then Maenam is one of the best beaches on Koh Samui for you. The beach is very quiet and has many nearby resorts and villas. You can also find people having massages along the sand as well as guests relaxing under the tall palm trees. The sand is a little grainy and the water at Maenam is calm and clean although it can be slightly murky.

Bophut Beach is an ideal beach if you’re looking for family friendly beach front resorts and water activities such as jet skiing. This beach is still a great spot for people of all types to come and enjoy. If you’re looking for crystal clear water or thin white sand then you might be best heading somewhere else like Silver Beach. The sand is more course and golden while the water is slightly cloudy. The beach is full of palm trees, many hotels and resorts. It’s ideal for those looking for a perfect family holiday getaway. You wont find many backpackers in this area as there are almost no hostels or cheap guesthouses.

Lamai Beach is the second most popular beach on Koh Samui. This beach is incredibly long with white sand and perfect blue water. You’ll find no shortage of beach front cafes, restaurants and bars as well as water activities like jet skiing, banana boats and even fly boarding. If you visit Lamai Beach, be sure to keep an eye out for signs indicating box jellyfish and swim within the net.
