Sydney & Maldives with Curio Collection by Hilton #CurioCurates

Jirapan and I had the pleasure of being invited on two special trips with Curio Collection by Hilton to experience two of their unique hotels. The trips would take place at the West Hotel in Sydney and SAii Lagoon in the Maldives, along with a bunch of very talented content creators. Our trip began at the West Hotel in Sydney where we were taken around on some fun day trips, before then heading to the Maldives for an ultimate experience in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Here is what we got up to!

West Hotel, Sydney

We began our trip at the West Hotel Sydney Curio Collection by Hilton where we would be spending 3 nights in their beautiful boutique rooms right in the heart of the city. The hotel style is very modern which we loved and the rooms have giant windows looking out onto Darling Harbour. West Hotel is easily accessible, so we were able to grab a taxi from our home in Sydney right to the front door. The hotel had some unique activities planned which we couldn’t wait to try.

Day 1

We started off our journey at West Hotel Sydney with a delicious welcome lunch, served at Solander Dining and Bar which is located on the ground floor of the hotel. All of the food we had at Solander over our 3 night stay was some of the most delicious and memorable food we’ve ever had! At the lunch we got to meet the other creators who we’d be spending the next few days with.

After an amazing lunch, we were treated to a floristry experience by Pearsons Florist. Pearsons Florist supply West Hotel with all their incredible flowers which are displayed around the hotel. The floristry experience included teaching the girls how to make flower crowns, and teaching the boys how to make a flower arrangement. We all had such a lovely time trying it out for ourselves.

We spent the rest of the evening enjoying our beautiful modern rooms before having a Spritz & Sliders night in the hotels atrium. The atrium is a lush outdoor intimate area which is a great place for some evening drinks with good company! During the Spritz & Sliders night we enjoyed delicious finger food consisting of mini burgers, prawns and lamb cutlets which were all so good.

Day 2

To start our second day, we began with a nice breakfast at the atrium. Breakfast at West Hotel isn’t your typical hotel breakfast as the hot breakfast is served to order, which means it’s super fresh! We got the smashed avocado everyday which was so yummy. You’ll still find some classic breakfast buffet food such as pastries, fruit and juices.

For day two we had an easy day planned with a tour around the beautiful city of Sydney. Since West Hotel is so central, it’s very easy to explore the city from here. Our first stop on the tour was Barangaroo, then a walk to the Opera House for lunch. It was nice to be able to explore our home city on foot! We all spent plenty of time walking around and taking some photos.

Once we finished our walk, we grabbed a big seafood lunch at the famous Opera Bar. After our delicious lunch, we hopped on a ferry to Cockatoo Island. We walked around the small island and got to view the harbour from a unique perspective. After a long day of walking around, we made our way back to the hotel.

After some rest at the West Hotel, we all made our way to a nearby restaurant called Bel & Brio for dinner. The restaurant was a short 5 minute walk away. We all had a perfect night eating the tasty authentic Italian cuisine.

Day 3

For our final day of exploring Sydney with the West Hotel, we began by having a quick breakfast before hopping in a van to Bondi Beach. We spent some time walking around Bondi Beach and admiring the beautiful beach. Some of the other people in our group also tried some surfing lessons! We spent all day by the beach which was the perfect way to spend our final day.

After a long day out in the warm sun, we make it back to the hotel in time for a cocktail demonstration at Solander. Solander make some incredible cocktails so it was awesome to be shown step by step how they make some. We were able to try some rose petal infused tequila which was very unique! The bartender then made us a beautiful pink cocktail which consisted of the infused tequila and topped off with a rose petal.

We then spent the night having an incredible 7 course meal at Solander! These dishes were unlike anything we’d ever had and we loved each one. Every dish is also paired with a wine and the host explains why each wine is paired with the dish. It’s such a nice dining experience! We spent the whole evening enjoying the incredibly unique meals that the chefs put together.

After 3 nights at the amazing West Hotel Sydney, it was time for us to head back home until the next trip with Curio Collection by Hilton!

SAii Lagoon, Maldives

The second part of the trip, and the one we were looking forward to most was staying at SAii Lagoon Curio Collection by Hilton in the Maldives. It was our first time in the Maldives and we were so excited to experience this beautiful country that we’ve seen and heard so much about. After arriving to the airport, we quickly got on the hotel ferry that would take us to their private island. The ferry only took about 15 minutes but we arrived during the night so we couldn’t see the beautiful views just yet. Once at the hotel, it was straight to bed for some rest before the next few jam packed days of exploring.

Day 1

The trip began with an early start to make the most out of our short time in the Maldives. We spent the morning walking around the beautiful property of SAii Lagoon to take some pictures. We were staying in the beach front villa which overlooked the beautiful ocean and tall palm trees. After taking one step out from our room, we were already on the soft white sand. SAii Lagoon Maldives is actually the first Curio Collection by Hilton property in South Asia. SAii Lagoon Maldives also forms part of CROSSROADS Maldives, the country’s first and only integrated destination and game-changing retreat.

After a quick buffet breakfast at Cafe Del Mar, it was time to treat ourselves to a Spa treatment. The massage was so good and we felt ready to take on the day. Next we went to check out their M.I.Y Aroma Lab. Here, guests can come and mix their own amenities to make a personalised scent using natural ingredients. The personalised scents are kept on record and you’ll be able to request amenities with your favourite scents during your stay and even for future visits!

We then had a delicious lunch at the hotel before heading out on a traditional boat to spend the afternoon Maldivian fishing. The boat took us out on the open waters where we waited patiently and tried our luck with the fish. Out of the whole group, there was only one lucky person who caught a decent size snapper! We spent the rest of the boat ride back on the open top deck, enjoying the ocean breeze and the incredible sunset that was lighting up the sky with all sorts of beautiful colours.

Finally, we finished off the day with a delicious Maldivian BBQ dinner consisting of fresh seafood and tasty grilled meats. We even had traditional Boduberu entertainment which is a form of dance and music from Maldivian tradition. Boduberu means Big (bodu) Drums (beru) so you’re sure to experience some loud and upbeat dancing. After dinner we had a cosy open air cinema session right on the beachfront.

Day 2

Our second day was off to an exciting start as we headed back on the boat to go snorkelling. After a quick 15 minute journey, we ended up beside the coral reefs. You could already start to see the coral from the boat because of the insanely clear blue water. We took our time exploring the coral reefs and managed to spot a few unique colourful fish as well as a turtle! Everyone had an amazing time viewing and swimming with the beautiful marine life. After about an hour out in the ocean, it was time for us to head back to the hotel.

Right after arriving back to the hotel, a group of us tried out wind surfing which is one of the many amazing water activities that SAii Lagoon offers. We had a few instructors teach us how to wind surf. Some of us had trouble picking it up, although Jirapan surprisingly got the hang of it super quickly.

After a busy morning trying some amazing water activities, it was time for lunch. Lunch consisted of a delicious burger bar. We were able to order as many delicious mini burgers as we wanted, and that wasn’t even the best part! Next came dessert which was a variety of incredibly delicious sugar free ice-cream. It was safe to say that this lunch was one of our favourites from the whole trip.

Once we finished our food, we had a little bit of time to relax before heading back out onto the water one last time for a dolphin sunset cruise. Unfortunately we didn’t have any luck seeing the dolphins. It was still nice to spend some time relaxing on the boat with a glass or two of champagne. We were also very lucky to have a beautiful sunset which made the evening even more magical.

Everyone had a rest and freshened up back in our beautiful beach villas for a few hours before heading to Cafe Del Mar for our finale dinner party. We had a delicious 3 course meal with some live entertainment of belly dancing and singing. It was a lovely evening with everyone we got to know so well over the two trips.

Day 3

Day 3 was sadly our last day in this beautiful place. We spent our final day at SAii Lagoon taking photos around the property as well as trying one last water activity. We were very excited when we found out we could try jet skiing! I had never been on a jet ski before so I couldn’t think of a better place to try it for the first time. After a quick briefing from our instructor, we set out past the bright blue ocean and onto the open water. We got to jet ski for roughly 30 minutes and it was so much fun! If you visit SAii Lagoon, you have to try it out for yourself. If you’re after something a bit calmer, they also have kayaking.

Once we finished jet skiing, we had lunch at Mr Tomyam. Mr Tomyam offers fusion Thai cuisine in an al fresco setting. Along with Thai classics, you can also try the pizzas, pastas, and salads at this beautiful beachfront restaurant. The view is so perfect you wont want to leave.

After 3 amazing days at SAii Lagoon Maldives, it was sadly time for us to leave. We had so much fun on both the Sydney and Maldives trip with Curio Collection by Hilton.

We can’t wait to come back to the Maldives one day soon!
