Jungle Beach Unawatuna – A Local Slice Of Paradise

Jungle Beach Unawatuna - lolapan travels

Jungle Beach Unawatuna is a gorgeous beach which is filled with friendly locals and tourists. This beach is a short drive away and it’s definitely worth visiting. You’ll fall in love with the clear blue water and the lush greenery surrounding the beach.

How to get to Jungle Beach Unawatuna

Jungle Beach is roughly a 10 minute drive from Unawatuna Beach. We hired a moped for 1000 Rupees ($7 AUD) and drove ourselves, although you can also hop in a tuk tuk. When we arrived, we parked at the first carpark we saw but later realised you can drive down the hill on the rocky dirt road until you can’t go any further. Once you’ve parked, keep following the path down until you see the beach. It’s a short 5 – 10 minute walk.

Where to stay

There are plenty of places to stay within the main area of Unawatuna. We decided to stay slightly further from the main area at Villa Sunimal. It was in a nice quiet location with large rooms and just over a 5 minute walk to the main strip of Unawatuna.. If you’re looking for something right in the action, you can check out Tartaruga Beach Resort which is one of the main hotels on the beach. It’s the perfect hotel to unwind and have a drink while relaxing on the beach.

What to expect

Jungle Beach Unawatuna is a beautiful beach filled with many happy locals and tourists. When we visited there were many large groups of locals partying and dancing while playing music which gave the beach a very upbeat atmosphere. You can walk all along the coastline of the beach and admire the ocean while hanging out on the rocks.

The beach is fairly small although you should be able to find a nice spot to relax on the sand. There’s also plenty of shaded areas under the trees that will keep you out of the sun. The water is incredibly clear and blue so you’ll definitely want to spend all your time cooling off in the ocean. Along the sand you’ll also find a small smoothie stand if you’re feeling thirsty.
