The Mahanakhon Skywalk in Bangkok is one of the newest attractions in the city that certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted. The massive skyscraper is a staggering 78 floors and is 310 meters high. It’s one of Thailand’s highest observation decks and the view is just as breathtaking as you would think! Not only is the observation deck a great way to see the city skyline, but there is also a glass floor where you can look at the beautiful city right below your feet. Mahanakhon Skywalk is a magical way to experience Bangkok and it should definitely be at the top of your list of things to see.

How to get to Mahanakhon Skywalk Bangkok

The Mahanakhon Skywalk is located in the King Power Mahanakhon building. It’s right in the heart of the city and shouldn’t be too far away from most popular accommodation options. You’ll easily be able to get to Mahanakhon Skywalk using the reliable Bangkok BTS skytrain. Take the Silom Line to Chong Nonsi Station and you’ll see the iconic building right as you get off. You can buy your ticket from the lobby of the building on the ground floor.

If you’re not familiar with Bangkok’s public transport system or aren’t located close to a BTS, you can also catch a metered taxi or tuk tuk. If you decide to get a taxi, make sure that they have the meter running instead of negotiating a price. The meter fare is always much cheaper!

Mahanakhon Skywalk Ticket Price

Tickets cost 1050 Baht ($50 AUD) which will give you access to all levels, including the indoor observatory on the 74th floor as well as the skywalk on the 78th floor. If you know you won’t like the outdoor sky-deck, you can just purchase a ticket for the indoor observatory for 850 Baht ($40 AUD). Although, we definitely do recommend getting the all inclusive ticket for 200 baht more as the skywalk shouldn’t be missed and you may as well if you’re already paying that much.

Mahanakhon Skywalk Bangkok Opening Hours

Mahanakhon Skywalk is open daily from 10 AM until Midnight, however last admission is at 11 PM.

What to expect

Once you’ve purchased a ticket, you’ll need to queue up for the elevator that’ll take you all the way up. There is an animated clip that plays in the elevator on the way up and down which is super cool. It definitely does a good job at calming and distracting you as you slowly make your way to the 74th floor. The lift will first take you to the indoor observatory on the 74th floor. You can walk all the way around, getting a full panoramic view of Bangkok. There are also touchscreen televisions telling you the history of the city. You’ll also find a few binoculars around to spot various landmarks.

After you’re done exploring the enclosed observatory level, it’s time to head up to the rooftop. Take the escalator up a floor and hop in the glass elevator that will take you up the remaining 4 levels. The rooftop is where you’ll find most people enjoying the view. There are plenty of places for you to sit, although you’ll have to buy a drink from the bar if you’re looking to take a seat. Here you’ll also find the glass floor where you can walk out above the city and look down if you dare. It’s definitely not for the faint hearted and if you are scared of heights you’ll have a difficult time.

Before heading out onto the glass platform, you’ll need to wear cloth covers for your shoes which they’ll provide. They are really strict about not allowing you to take phones or cameras onto the glass platform. You’ll also need to put your belongings like handbags into a small cloth bag. If you want a photo, you’ll have to get a friend or ask someone to take it for you from the side.

Best time of day to visit

We were looking to see the Bangkok city skyline change from day to night so we visited just before sunset. Sunset is the most popular time people will be visiting so expect to see a crowd at this time. It’s a magical time to experience the city lights come on as the sun goes down. If you’re looking for the most magical experience, we’d say to visit around sunset. Be sure to also stay around till it gets dark. It is very busy at this time and the skywalk will be very crowded making it hard to get a photo. It was almost impossible for us to get photos without people in them but we managed with a bit of patience.

If you’re looking to avoid the crowds it will be better to visit earlier during the day or way later at night. This way you’ll be able to enjoy the views with a bit of peace and quiet.

Is Mahanakhon Skywalk Worth it?

The steep price may be a little off putting for some people as there are plenty of rooftop bars around Bangkok without any entry fees. You could definitely take the $50 and head to a different rooftop bar to enjoy a couple drinks. Although the view of Mahanakhon Skywalk sure is incredible and you won’t find another view this high in Bangkok. If you’re on a budget, you can probably experience a beautiful view elsewhere for much cheaper. However if you have the budget, Mahanakhon Skywalk is a stunning way to experience 360 degree views of the city.
