Meena Cafe Kanchanaburi is one of the prettiest and most relaxing cafes we have ever come across. This cafe is perfectly situated looking out over the lush rice fields, with a view of Wat Tham Sua in the distance. If you’re in the area and looking for a calm place to enjoy some delicious drinks and cakes, then you have to stop by Meena Cafe. We could have easily spent hours here relaxing in the shade of the cosy bamboo huts. No matter what time you visit, you’ll be able to find yourself a perfect seat to enjoy the stunning view.

Meena Cafe is open daily from 8:30am – 7:30pm. It’s the perfect place to stop and grab an afternoon snack and refreshment while getting away from the heat.
Best time to visit
You’ll definitely want to visit Meena Cafe when the rice fields are tall and green. You will find the fields looking their best in the rainy season. We visited in early October and found them looking picture perfect. We were fortunate that we had some clear blue skies in the rainy season so we could enjoy walking around the bamboo bridge in the field. Thailands rainy season is classified as May – October, while the hot season is February – May.
What to expect
Meena Cafe is one of the most beautiful cafes in Kanchanaburi and definitely shouldn’t be missed. From their delicious drink options to super cute bamboo design, you’re sure to fall in love with this cafe. They have a variety of seating options from bamboo huts, hammocks, big lounge chairs, as well as regular seating for a quick stop. One thing we love about this place is they have a variety of props such as straw hats and umbrellas which you can use to get some super fun photos. The perfect view of Wat Tham Sua in the distance is an extra amazing feature.
Food / Drinks
Food and drinks at Meena Cafe Kanchanaburi are super affordable. You can find a variety of drinks available from coffee to sodas and delicious smoothies. All the drink prices range from 50 Baht ($2 AUD) for coffee to 80 Baht ($4 AUD) for smoothies. You’ll also find an amazing selection of cakes from cheesecake to chocolate. All the cakes range from 70 Baht to 85 Baht.
If you’re after something a bit bigger than cake and coffee, they also have a restaurant. Once you arrive at Meena Cafe, walk straight through and head towards the rice fields and to the left. On the left side you’ll find a restaurant that serves classic Thai dishes as well as western dishes such as pizza.
Meena Cafe offers some insane views of the lush rice fields, as well as of Wat Tham Sua which is a beautiful temple located on the top of a hill. The great thing about Meena Cafe is that you can walk out onto the rice fields using the bamboo bridge. You can walk quite far and view the cafe and surrounding rice fields from a great perspective.
One thing that makes Meena Cafe so inviting and relaxing is its cosy bamboo design. On the right side you’ll find little bamboo huts spread out along the rice fields which even have their own hammocks. The huts are a perfect way to escape the heat and hang out among the rice fields. In the centre of the cafe, there are some really unique nets which hang above the rice fields. You can sit in the nets and enjoy your refreshments while having a perfect view of everything around you. On the left side, there are large day beds which look like the perfect place to kick up your feet and take in the view!
How to get to Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi is a small rural area in western Thailand. There are a few different ways you can get from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi. The easiest and most convenient option would be to book a day tour with a travel agent in the city. A day trip is also a great option to see some of the other tourist attractions. Additionally, you can just book a minivan to take you to Kanchanaburi. The drive there will take roughly 2.5 hours from Bangkok.
Bangkok to Kanchanaburi by Train
There are also trains and buses available, although we’d definitely recommend getting the train. It’s the most pleasant and scenic way to see the Thai countryside. The trains from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi leave twice a day from Thonburi Station. The Bangkok to Kanchanaburi Train only costs 100 baht ($5 AUD) so it’s a super affordable. There’s no need to pre purchase tickets online. You can just buy your ticket when you arrive at the train station. The train leaves Thonburi Station at 7:50 am and 1:55 pm. The train will take you through the scenic Thai countryside, passing plenty of rice fields and fruit farms.
Where to Stay
Kanchanaburi is a rural area in western Thailand, just outside of Bangkok. It’s a great place to stay if your looking to learn about the history or to see the beautiful Thai countryside. Blue Sky Raft – Luxury: Blue Sky Raft is the most unique accommodation option around and if you have the budget, you definitely need to check it out. This hotel is actually located on the water and is made up of different villas. Each villa has their own patio and spa bath on the river. You’ll be able to wake up every morning to the view overlooking the river. If you’re looking for an unforgettable place to stay, then this is the hotel for you.
Away Kanchanaburi Dheva Mantra Resort – Midrange: Away Kanchanaburi is an ideal luxury getaway in a great location. This hotel is located right along the river with insane views and also has a pool and pool bar. The rooms are large, clean and surrounded by tropical greenery. It’s the ideal place to stay if you’re after a getaway in the countryside.
TOPAE Hostel – Budget: This hostel is in a prime location and is the perfect place to base yourself when visiting Kanchanaburi. It’s close to the train and bus station as well as night markets and plenty of good restaurants. The owners are also super kind and friendly. TOPAE Hostel is very clean with comfy beds and good wifi. A bonus is that they also provide breakfast in the morning which is perfect if you’re looking to save some money.
