Panna Meena Ka Kund Jaipur is an ancient stepwell in Jaipur that is known for its picturesque stairways that lead down to the water. Unfortunately, they’ve recently stopped letting people walk down. There are always security guards there that will stop you. This stepwell in Jaipur is best to visit after Amber Fort as it’s only a short drive away.
How to get to Panna Meena Ka Kund Jaipur
This stepwell in Jaipur is roughly a 40 minute drive from the city. It’s best to pair Panna Meena Ka Kund with a visit to Amber Fort as they are located 5 minutes away from each other. The best and most convenient way to reach these places is by rickshaw. We arranged a day tour with our hotel for 600 Rupees ($12 AUD) which included a stop at Amber Fort, the stepwell and also some other temples nearby.
Where to stay
There are a variety of Jaipur accommodation options in many different areas and also ranging in price. Bani Park is the most popular area for tourists to stay in Jaipur. We decided to stay close to the train station at Nahar Singh Haveli and found it was away from the busy streets and in a nice quiet area which was perfect.

What to Expect at this Stepwell in Jaipur
Upon arrival, we were a little disappointed when we found out that you couldn’t walk down the stairs. We had intended to capture some amazing photos of the symmetrical stairways. The government has recently employed security guards to ensure that no one walks down the stairs. We’re not sure of the reason why but we can only imagine that it’s for safety reasons. You’ll still be able to enjoy the view of the stepwell from the top but you may find it difficult to capture photos as good as you once were able to.
Panna Meena Ka Kund Jaipur is still worth a quick visit to admire the awesome architecture of the stairs. It’s free to look at and it’s close to Amber Fort which is a popular tourist attraction. The stairs are also a bit dirty from the black stains running down, although the unique symmetry of the stairs are still awesome to look at. There’s not much else around apart from a small stand selling some local snacks and drinks.
Be sure not to miss out on visiting The Amber Fort which is only a short drive away!
