Best Things To Do In Koh Tao
1. Visit the beautiful beaches
On our short visit to Koh Tao we managed to visit 6 beautiful beaches. There is a beach for everyone from quiet and small secluded beaches to bigger beaches surrounded by large granite boulders with the most insane clear blue water! You could spend everyday visiting a new beach. Our favourite beach was definitely Freedom Beach due to its perfect blue water and relaxed vibe. If you’re looking for something more exciting, you can also check out Shark Bay where you can view small blacktip fin sharks. This island is known for its beaches and sea life so it’s absolutely one of the best things to do in Koh Tao.
2. Hike to a Viewpoint
John Suwan Viewpoint is the most popular viewpoint on Koh Tao due to its beautiful scenery. The short 10 minute hike will lead you to some breathtaking views. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with an incredible view of the two neighbouring beaches which are Chalok Bay and Shark Bay. As you enjoy the view, you’ll also notice the bright blue water and many boats passing by. John Suwan Viewpoint isn’t a tough hike so everyone will be able to do it.
If you prefer an easier viewpoint, there is another view that overlooks just Chalok Bay. Head towards Freedom beach and as you approach, you’ll notice a small carpark on the left side of the road. Opposite the carpark is a viewing area for you to observe the beauty of Chalok Bay below. This viewpoint isn’t as amazing at John Suwan, although it requires no effort at all and is still worth a look.
3. Enjoy an incredible sunset at Sairee Beach
If you’re looking for a place to sit on the sand or by a bar and watch an incredible sunset, then you should definitely head to Sairee Beach! During the day this beach is full of many tourists relaxing in the sun. By the evening, the bars start to come to life as the sky erupts in colour. The sun sets right in the centre of the beach so you will have a perfect view of the colourful sky. Watching the sunset from Sairee Beach is something you should do at least once to unwind after a long day.
4. Go Diving
Koh Tao is known for its incredible diving experiences. As you walk around the island you’ll also notice that almost every second store is a scuba diving centre. We unfortunately didn’t get a chance to go diving. Although we heard from an experienced diver that Koh Tao diving was one of the best dives they’ve ever had! Many people would say that diving is one of the best things to do in Koh Tao.
5. Visit Koh Nang Yuan Island
This might not technically be on Koh Tao, however it is super easy to access and is only a short 10 minute boat trip away! Visiting Koh Nang Yuan was by far one of our favourite things to do in Koh Tao. You can easily spend all day exploring the crystal clear waters and relaxing on the sand. The ocean is bright blue and surrounded by large boulders and tall hills. After the beach you can then head to the Koh Nang Yuan viewpoint which is only a short 5-10 minute walk up some stairs. This viewpoint is famous for its incredibly beautiful view of the small island below.
