There are plenty of things to do on Gili Trawangan such as snorkeling, bike riding and spending dinner by the beach. Gili Trawangan is the most popular island out of the 3 Gili islands. In this blog we’ll be giving you our top things to do on Gili Trawangan.
How to get to Gili Trawangan from Lombok
Bangsal Harbour is the main port on Lombok with services running to Gilli Trawangan. Once there, head to the ticket office to book either a public boat which costs 15K IDR or a fast boat which costs 85K IDR. We used a public boat and it was fine. They leave every time the boat is full with 40 passengers which doesn’t take very long. The public boat takes roughly 30 minutes to reach Gili T.
Top things to do on Gili Trawangan
Snorkeling the Gili islands is a must! It’s without a doubt one of the most popular things to do on Gili Trawangan. You can snorkel with turtles, explore underwater statues, coral reefs and even view a sunken shipwreck. You’ll also be able to visit and explore Gili Meno.

2. Rent bicycles and explore the island
You can rent bicycles for around 40K-50K IDR per day. Bike riding is the best way to view the island since it takes roughly 30 minutes to bike around the whole outside of the island. You can access some beautiful beaches by bike so it saves you walking a long way.
3. Enjoy a moonlight movie
There are multiple places along the island where you can enjoy an outdoor cinema. Many of the outdoor cinemas are located right in front of the beach so you can relax by the sea. The movies are part of restaurants and bars so you can enjoy food and drinks while you watch a movie!
4. Sunset swings
Sunset swings are one of the top things to do on Gili Trawangan. You’ll find multiple sunset swings in the ocean along the west of the island. These swings get very busy in the afternoon due to everyone trying to get a photo with the sunset. The swings are also a great spot to relax during the day.
5. Relax on a white sand beach
The whole of Gili Trawangan is surrounded by blue ocean and white sand beaches. We found the best and quietest beaches to be located on the west of the island since the beaches along the main strip of the island are very congested with boats. The beaches on the west are very laid back and they are a great place to enjoy a drink on the beach.
6. Have dinner on the beach then head to a bar!
There are plenty of beach front restaurants and bars where you can have a drink while partying with your friends.
The main strip of Gili Trawangan is filled with beach front restaurants that offer delicious BBQ’s, pizza, pasta and burgers. We found that the restaurant “Blue Ocean 2” had a really great cheap dinner option where you can purchase any pasta for 25K and also any pizza for 35K.
After dinner you can head to one of the many bars and clubs which are located on the main strip. The most popular bar is the “sama-sama” reggae bar which have great live music every night. If you’re looking for something different then you’ll find plenty of other bars along the main strip which you can check out.
7. Visit the turtle sanctuary
If you love turtles then you should definitely check out the turtle sanctuary located on the main strip of Gili Trawangan. Here they keep dozens of baby turtles which they then release into the ocean. It is also free to view the turtles.
